These rules compliment and are additional to the University Ordinances that set out acceptable behaviour of students, and in addition to the rules found on eHalls.
Breach of these rules constitutes a breach of the Ordinances, and of your Accommodation Licence, and shall be dealt with through the College Disciplinary Procedures.
- If the fire alarm goes off, you must leave the building immediately using the closest fire door, and only use the 3rd floor balcony exit if any other exit is blocked.
- Do not tamper with fire-fighting equipment, or attempt to disable your fire detector in any way – this is also a criminal offence
- Do not use fire extinguishers to prop open doors
- Smoking is strictly forbidden in the Hall or immediately outside the Hall – the nearest place you can smoke is on the grass outside the front of the Hall (not in the entrance way, in the courtyard, or in the bike shed).
- Do not block any lock or prevent a fire door from closing properly
- Turn off all hobs, ovens and lights when not in use
- You must not attempt to open any fire exit other than in an emergency.
- No cooking in rooms
- No deep fat frying anywhere in the Hall
- No naked flames anywhere in the Hall (including birthday candles)
- No high current devices are allowed in bedrooms (e.g. kettles, heaters, freezers). Those used in kitchens must be PAT certified and permission must be sought from the hall supervisors
- No fairy lights allowed in rooms or kitchens
- Do not congregate in or block access to exit routes, e.g. corridors, lifts, stairwells and foyers
- In addition to the guest specific rules below, residents must make their guests aware of fire evacuation procedures and have their overnight guests logged.
- It is a criminal offence to possess, or to permit the possession of any illegal drugs on any college premises
- The wardens and college staff are bound by law to act if they have reasonable suspicion that any illegal substances are present in the Hall.
- Anyone suspected of taking or possessing drugs will have their property searched by security or the police.
- Residents should be aware of recent bans on ‘legal highs’ in the UK are now in effect and these substances are no longer legal to supply to others, and are banned from Halls completely.
Damage & Mess
- You may not affix anything to any wall by any means, except onto the designated notice boards·
- Items such as supermarket trolleys, traffic cones, and road signs are not allowed to be brought onto the premises
- Do not throw anything out of the windows
- Tampering with or removing window restrictors is strictly forbidden
- Pets are strictly forbidden
- Accidental damage to the Hall or its contents should be reported as soon as possible to a hall supervisor or warden
- Damage that is intentional, or results from neglect or carelessness on the part of a resident or resident’s guest, may result in punishment – possibly including repair or replacement costs
- Bicycles are not allowed in the building and must be stored in the bike storage area
- You must abide by all health and safety instructions given by a member of the wardening team, campus services team, or security team
- Your household is defined on the basis of your kitchen. See information in wardens welcome talk.
- No excessive noise between 11pm and 8am (10pm and 8am during exam periods). Excessive is deemed to be noise that can be heard from outside the room it originates from.
- Do not give your swipe card to anyone else
- Respect your fellow residents; this includes dressing appropriately in common areas and cleaning up after yourselves (kitchens, communal spaces, rooms)
- Personal property must not be left around the hall and must be locked away
- Theft of food from fridges and freezers, and/or cooking equipment from the kitchens, is strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated
- Strangers should not, under any circumstances, be allowed to enter the building
- You must follow all instructions given by a member of the wardening team when being asked to comply with the rules, or for your or others’ safety
- The game’s room is currently closed for safety reasons. This policy will be reviewed on a weekly basis.
- A maximum of 6 people from at most 2 houseolds at any given time are allowed in common rooms. Maximum occupancy signs are displayed at entrance to such rooms, and number can be lower than 6 for individual rooms. This policy will be reviewed only a daily basis to meet government restrictions.
- Please always check College, Campus Service and Hall communications for the most up-to-date rules.
- In order to ensure everyone is able to safely and comfortably adhere to social distancing, guests will not be allowed in any halls of residence, including Imperial students from another hall of residence. This will be reviewed at the end of October.
- Prolific lockout call outs may result in a community service
- Replacement keys will be charged for.
- The eHalls system in use by Wilson House automates many of the Hall’s administrative tasks. As with any College ICT system, if you attempt to use the service for purposes other than intended (managing your information registered with the hall, completing administrative tasks and managing your event tickets), including but not limited to any attempt to tamper, hack, modify or otherwise use the website in any way that is likely to compromise or corrupt the security or functionality of the service provided by eHalls, you will be subject to College Disciplinary procedures.
- Under the College Ordinances, Wardens have the ability to fine residents, impose community service and ban or limit access to areas for breach of these rules.
- Serious offences will be raised to a Residences Tribunal or College Disciplinary panel which may result in removal from Halls or the University.
